Academic Growth at Home

A simple and powerful way to build your child’s literacy skills is through a short daily routine called “Read, Talk, and Connect.” Choose any book your child enjoys and spend 10–15 minutes reading together in a relaxed setting—bedtime, after dinner, or even during quiet time. As you read, pause occasionally to talk about the story. Ask open-ended questions like, “What do you think will happen next?” or “Why do you think the character did that?” These natural conversations strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking without making learning feel forced or overwhelming.

To deepen the experience, connect the story to your child’s real life. For example, if a character is feeling nervous, you might ask, “Have you ever felt that way?” or “What would you do in that situation?” This helps children make meaningful connections, build confidence in expressing their thoughts, and see reading as something relevant and enjoyable. Over time, these small, consistent moments create strong readers—not because of pressure, but because literacy becomes a natural and valued part of everyday family life.
